Skateboarding Across America with Chad Caruso

Meet Chad Caruso, a passionate skateboarder with nearly seven years of sobriety under his belt. He's embarking on an awe-inspiring journey across America to raise addiction awareness. Skating from Venice Beach, California to Virginia Beach, Virginia, Chad's mission is to show kids that there's an alternative to the drinking culture that often permeates skateboarding and that a more fulfilling life awaits them.

Chad's racked up 2,187 miles in just 39 days, skating between 50 and 75 miles daily on his 9.5-inch egg-shaped board, equipped with Indy trucks, 68mm 78a Seismic Cerrillos wheels, and SKF ceramic bearings. Carrying only a 10-15 pound Camelback bag with essentials like sunscreen, a toothbrush, a spare outfit, and extra wheels and bearings, Chad's minimalist approach allows him to focus on the journey and the impact he's making.

Chad's cross-country skate has been blessed with 30 consecutive sunny days, allowing him to keep up a strong pace. However, he's mindful of the heat, trying to start as early as possible to maximize productivity. When faced with steep hills or narrow shoulders with traffic, Chad reverts to his regular stance for safety.

To maintain his energy, Chad drinks 3 to 6 liters of water daily and has a high-calorie meal at dinner, with snacks like Clif bars, trail mix, and beef jerky throughout the day. His recovery process includes icing his feet, shins, and knees, as well as stretching in the morning and evening to reduce strain on his body.

Chad's main goal for this epic journey is to raise addiction awareness within the skate community. With nearly seven years of sobriety, he wants to show kids that there's another option out there that can lead to a more fulfilled existence beyond the drinking culture.
